    Ø On January 27, 2021 a Virtual Kindergarten Open House was offered to registering families.

    Ø Mr. Sirianni, Mrs. Pozzobon, both Administrative Assistants and the Kindergarten Team were on the Google Meet to present information about curriculum, expectations and what to expect, as well as answer any question that may arise.

    Ø There was good interest with many families participating in the 1 of 3 sessions.

    Ø Registrations have been coming in, thus far just under 20 new kindergarten registrations.

    Ø February 24th, there will be another Kindergarten Open House.

    Ø Open House video was presented to the CSC

    Ø Thanks was given to all those involved and participated in the video including Grade 8 students and Parent Council Co-chairs.

    Ø Mr. Sirianni presented the new calendar for the School Year of 2021-2022. Start date is Sept. 7, 2021, Christmas Break from Dec. 24-Jan 11, and last day of school is June 29 (students) June 30 (PA Day), 2022

    Ø Fabiano-Encouraging parents to submit feedback to voice their opinion on the calendar Christmas holiday break. She disagrees with the break dates, wants the dates to be Dec. 17-Jan 3 instead to align with daycare and work schedules. Believes it is difficult for students to focus in the week leading up to Christmas.

    Ø Eila-Tried to send in feedback on the calendar, however the link did not work.

    Ø Mr. Sirianni told all members to send their feedback to him and he will forward the feedback to Jennifer Pellegrini.

    Ø Brown Fila-The Christmas break may be a way for the students to settle down from the hustle and bustle of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

    Ø Mrs. Gray explains that this is not the first time the scheduling of the holiday runs later into January. It has happened many times in past calendars.

    5.   STAFF REPORT

     

    · Mrs. Kelli Concessi-Saylor has returned virtually as an Educational Assistant

    · Ms. Tiffany DeRuiter is our new Administrative Assistant in the office

    · Staff Update: Share Slide Show

    Ø Mrs. Pozzobon presented to the council a slideshow of Student Work from several of classes to celebrate great virtual lessons and learning.

    Ø Great appreciation for all students who participate on a regular basis and to all staff members for working so diligently. Great efforts are recognized.

    Ø Technology capabilities is improving. Both staff and students are learning and adjusting to virtual learning.

     

    6.   Co-Chair Report

    · Student Online Schedules-

    Ø Virtual schedules are reflective on regular in school schedules due to French times. This effects recess and lunch times.

    Ø Parents arise the issue of different lunch times for their children who are in different divisions. Parents explain that it is difficult to manage different on and off times and having lunches at different times.

    Ø Concerns from parents about missing attendance due to French and different schedules.

    Ø Mrs. Oros and Mrs. Sacco changed their French to be before lunch so that it is not interrupted—which means their lunch time starts later and is over at 1pm for Virtual only.

    · Food Days- Pizza, Subway, other ideas?

    Ø Pizza will increase in cost to $2.00 due to an increase in cost for packaging.

    Ø Possible Pasta Day in the future—order from Fresco.

    Ø Breakfast Club: The EAs create bins for each class with various snacks. The bins are delivered to each classroom for distribution.

    Ø There are Breakfast Club items that can be donated to families in need. If anyone would like to volunteer with delivers, please contact the school.

     

     





    Committee Structure / Reports / Updates

    · Faith Formation –virtual liturgies and mass with Father Paul on Monday’s at 12:30pm

    · Faith Formation- Advent Weekly Liturgies, performed by class using the front foyer and google meet to share with school

    · First Communion – Grade 2 Mrs. Sacco April 11 at 2pm

    · First Communion- Grade 2 Mrs. Oros and Mrs. Lepera- April 18 at 2pm

    · Sacrament of Confirmation – Gr. 8 – April 20 at 7pm- Mrs. Capitano—only parents allowed, no sponsors

    · Sacrament of Confirmation- Gr 8 – April 21 at 7pm- Mr. Tham --only parents allowed, no sponsors

    · Sacrament of Holy Communion (postponed until churches open) – Gr. 3- those that did the preparation last year are to show up at a Sunday mass with family. Grade 2 students will be prepared in class. Families need to pick up the package from the church. In the spring, they will attend a Sunday Mass with their family (both during regular mass- no group)

     





    Principal Items

    · Fundraiser- Valentine’s Day Raffle (same concept as Triathlon). Goal is to provide prizes. Let’s try to support local businesses during this time if we buy gift cards. Other prizes are accepted as well. In the past, staff, and parents donated prizes.

    · What month works best to run this?

    · Breakfast club – We may make food deliveries to families in need with our food items in the school

    Ø Fundraiser ideas were presented for both modalities:

    o   Virtual: Online spinning wheel with everyone’s name on it

    o   Will not exclude any students

    o   $20 to enter the draw for gift cards

    o   In school: Ticket sales for prize draws

    o   Will not exclude any students—everyone gets 5 free tickets

    o   Extra tickets for sale

    o   Spend $30 gets you into the Grand Prize Draw—price subject to change.

    o   Time line is unsure, depending when we return to in school learning with the announcement on Feb. 3, 2021

    o   Fundraisers will bring some normality to the students and give them something to look forward to and be excited for.

     

    Kids Helping Kids- School Spirit Week February 22 to February 26.

     


    This year’s event will once again jointly support the Niagara Children’s Centre, as well as the Niagara Foundation for Catholic Education.


     

    Anyone who wants to support the Foundation with a direct donation will receive a tax receipt for donations of $20.00 or more.   VISA and MasterCard are also accepted by calling the foundation office, 905-735-0247 extension 210. Donations may be made online at www.nfce.org . Thank you for your Catholic school community’s support for this year’s fundraiser

     

    Ø There will be a week in February that will be dedicated to KHK with alternative dress days including; Superhero- Monday, PJ-Tuesday, Pink Shirt Day-Wed, Crazy Hair/Hat-Thurs and Jersey Day-Fri

    Ø Donations through CashOnline—organized and posted by NCDSB

    Ø Mrs. Pozzobon explains the School Program that the NCC offers students from NCDSB, the programing, services, support and transportation.

     

    · Eco Garden/Fall Clean Up – Mr. Van Wissen will lead. We will do a garden clean up this month.

    Ø Improve the School gardens when spring arrives

    Ø Increase composting at home and at school

    Ø ECO challenges—lights out, waste free lunches, etc.

    BBS Church Program presented by Jose Evangelista

    Ø BBS is currently on hold due to COVID

    Ø When up and running it is $180 cost for all 5 schools, equaling $40 per school to register to allow students to participate.

    Ø Father Paul is researching the next steps in BBS, TBA

    Community Outreach Food Drive

    Ø Food Drive for Project Share

    Ø Planning for March-for Easter

    Ø If not in school—Designated drop off points

    Faithful Firebird

    Ø Will continue this month. Names have been chosen by staff and certificates will be delivered possibly on Friday, awaiting announcement on school reopening. Helps to promote normality.

    Gym Equipment

    Ø More equipment will be purchased to support recess and gym classes.

    Ø 4 balls per class

    Graduation 2021

    Ø A request to make a graduation committee. Volunteers required.

    Ø A June 2021 graduation is guaranteed, either virtually or in school. Told to prepare and plan for both by senior administration from NCDSB.

    Ø More information to be addressed next CSC meeting.

    Virtual Learning Expectations

    Ø Students are strongly encouraged to have their screen on while on a virtual synchronous lesson, however not mandatory.

    Ø French is a Ministry Mandated subject area, therefore participation in French classes is mandatory.

    Ø Comments about homework and lessons expectations should be directed to the classroom teacher.

    Ø Mr. Sirianni addressed concerns from parents about specific classroom issues and reminded them that CSC is not the platform for these concerns and to speak to the teacher directly about these topics instead of in a group setting.
